GDF soldier dies after fitness run PDF Print E-mail

GUYANA Defence Force Lance Corporal Eon Blair, of 305 Number 51 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, died yesterday morning after complaining of chest pains during his annual fitness run.

altA GDF press release said that Blair, 28, was participating in the five-mile run with other members of his unit when he experienced chest pains in the vicinity of the Umana Yana on High Street.
He was immediately placed into the accompanying ambulance and taken to the Force’s Medical Centre at Camp Ayanganna, and then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died.
Lance Corporal Blair was a serving member for nine years, having enlisted in 2004.
The incident took place at about 05:45hrs and it is believed that he suffered a heart attack. A post-mortem is expected on Monday.
