NO motive has yet been ascertained for the brutal murder of a Guyanese national who was living and working in the twin-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago, two days after he was gunned down in front of his Arena Freeport apartment.

Tyron Achaia, 28, received one shot to the chest which pierced his heart and he collapsed and died after the gunman fired from close and fled the scene in a motor car, reports indicated.
The man’s grieving mother, Shanaz Achaia, 48, who spoke to this newspaper from her Lot 381 Good Hope New Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, said she was informed about the murder through a telephone call from a relative on Tuesday night.
She said her son was a fun-loving person and, when he was in Guyana last October and for Christmas 2012, he did not seem troubled, so she was puzzled at the way he was killed.
The woman, a stall owner at Mon Repos, also on the East Coast of Demerara, said her son’s neighbours heard the gunshot and saw a car driving away from the scene but no other information was garnered in relation to a suspect or reason.
She said her son was returning to his apartment after having gone to do some laundry at a nearby residence. He had lived and spent the past five years in Trinidad and got his resident visa in October 2012.

STILL INTACT
She said his death is very difficult for the family to accept knowing that he was not the victim of an armed robbery, because the gold jewels he was wearing at the time were still intact as well as his wallet.
She last spoke to him by telephone on Monday and he was his usual jovial self and they are waiting to hear from relatives in Trinidad what actually transpired.
The woman said her loved one was not a bully or anything like that but an ideal son and his execution-style killing comes as a surprise.
“We still cannot believe he is gone and, maybe when we see his body, we may accept that he is no more,” Achaia
said.
Her son was a supervisor at the Highway to Heaven Restaurant and Bar, located along the South-bound lane of Solomon Hochoy Highway, Freeport. He resided with an elderly landlady and she was inside the sealed apartment when he was gunned down.
She only learnt of his demise when others told her on Tuesday evening after the incident. The deceased is survived by four brothers, a sister, his stepfather and scores of relatives.
The stepfather and one of his brothers are in Trinidad trying to secure the body so they can bring it back to Guyana for the funeral and burial.
Meanwhile, the Trinidad Express newspaper reported, on Wednesday, that his co-worker, Vishan Maharaj said Achaia left the workplace at around 9.30 p.m.

SEEMED NORMAL
“He had a suitcase with him. No one knew what was in the suitcase. He seemed normal but he was in a hurry to go home. He had a few drinks and left,” Maharaj said.
The deceased’s landlord, Gangapersad Ramesar reported: “My wife brought him (Achaia) home and he went up the road by my sister’s house where he used to stay sometimes.”
“He said he was going to wash clothes and came back after 10 o’clock. I was inside the bedroom when my daughter-in-law ran inside and said she heard him bawl out and something like a gunshot.”
Ramesar said: “I came out and saw him lying on his belly. He got shot in his chest. He was already dead. The suitcase was in the yard. It was full of clothes.”
The man said a gold ID band, two gold rings, a cell phone and wallet were still on Achaia when he was found.
Neighbours said they saw a black ‘Corolla’ leaving the scene after the gunshot was heard.
Tyron Achaia was not married and had no children. Sergeant Andy Mohammed of Freeport Police Station is investigating.
