The Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR) strongly condemns and completely refutes the baseless and malicious allegations made against the parliamentary opposition by the Guyana Chronicle newspaper in its article - Despotic Opposition leaders again holds nation to ransom – published on October 29th 2012.
The PNCR and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) refuse to accept the Chronicle’s dangerous and inflammatory rhetoric, filled with racist undertones, that

have now become the hallmark of this newspaper.
This type of divisive language coming from a government-controlled media house goes against the spirit of national unity that the PNCR and  APNU are working hard to foster. The Guyana Chronicle’s total disregard for the wishes of the majority of the electorate and the callous disrespect for the Legislative branch of government must be condemned by all who yearn for a Guyana where all are equally respected and human rights and dignity are equally guaranteed regardless of race, religion, social or economic status.
The PNCR calls on the Government of Guyana and the Guyana National Newspapers Limited which own and control this newspaper to immediately withdraw the offensive article.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  In the interest of fairness and balance, the Guyana Chronicle always seeks to ensure that its editorials, and indeed, all of its editorial content, are factually accurate.
In this spirit, the Guyana Chronicle and its management would willingly withdraw the editorial that has caused offence, and would issue a blanket apology prominently displayed in this newspaper if the PNC and/or any other complainant could prove the contents of the disputed editorial to be factually inaccurate.
If, as described in the PNC’s release, that party finds the contents “repugnant”, then it behoves this newspaper to point out that the editorial was making reference to a series of repugnant acts in the history of this country, including recent incidents, thus it was difficult to temper the language.  To do so would not have done justice to the incidents reported on; and in effect would have done grave injustice to the victims, who also need a voice; but who would not destroy public and private properties, rob, kill, and assault innocent people to call attention to their grievances.
The Guyana Chronicle has a mandate to give a voice to every member of society, thus the editorial was merely fulfilling this mandate as per its constitutional demands and/or requirements.
We quote from the PNC’s release, “....must be condemned by all who yearn for a Guyana where all are equally respected and human rights and dignity are equally guaranteed regardless of race, religion, social or economic status.”
The Guyana Chronicle endorses these sentiments, and it is in this spirit that the editorial was published, after much thought, because the incidents at Linden and Agricola “....must be condemned by all who yearn for a Guyana where all are equally respected and human rights and dignity are equally guaranteed regardless of race, religion, social or economic status.”  This includes the three men who were shot by unknown gunmen at Linden.  Their voices have been silenced; but the Chronicle is providing them with a posthumous voice.
