| Assault convict opts to serve jail term rather than pay $1,000 fine |

LEON Davis (no address given) on Monday opted to serve a five-day jail term after being convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm. Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo had imposed a $1,000 fine on Davis, but he chose the alternative – imprisonment -- declaring at the New Amsterdam Magistrates Court that he did not have money. |
