PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) -- Promising all-rounder Vikash Mohan has been chosen to lead Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Under-19 Championships starting in Barbados later this month.
Mohan will skipper a 14-man squad which includes a number of experienced youth players such as his vice-captain and left-arm spinner Jovan Ali and batsman Ewart Nicholson. Mohan started his career as an off-spin bowler on the national Under-13 cricket team and has developed into a batsman at the Under-19 level. “We have a very experienced team, a lot of them played in the Premiership tournament and that is quite good,” explained Kelvin Williams, the national Under-19 coach. “We no doubt have the men who can give you outstanding individual performances but we need to play together as a team to see positive results.” The players are due to wrap up preparations next week before flying out to Barbados on July 26. Their preparations have included physical and mental training camps as well as a three-day match against a select national eleven. “I have a good feeling that we will compete and compete well in this tournament," said Williams, the former national all-rounder. “We are going to finish high in this tournament but I want us to be champions and in order to achieve this it will take a lot of hard work.” Trinidad and Tobago finished second in the league and limited overs tournaments last year. SQUAD -- Vikash Mohan (captain), Jovan Ali (vice-captain), Philton Williams, Tevin Robertson, Al Small, Nairon Motilal, Nicholas Pooran, Ewart Nicholson, Jeremy Solozano, Stephen Wharwood, Andy Gobin, Anthony Simmons, Addrien Daniel, Brian Christmas. |
