FOLLOWING a break in competition, which saw the organiser face several hiccups beyond his control, action in the ‘Keep Your Five Alive’ football tournament will restart tomorrow night with 12 first-round matches at the California Square in East Ruimveldt and conclude on July 22,
In an invited comment, Kevin Adonis of Adoni Productions said he was forced to postpone the tournament and make it a three-day affair, as he sought to keep the image of the tournament intact. Tomorrow night’s matches will be played for a period of either 15 or 20 minutes each, with the first match kicking off at 19:00hrs and teams are asked to be at the venue at least 30 minutes before their match commences. “A failure to do so would result in their opponents being granted the game via a walkover when the match is called, as we will be pressed for time and as I said, before, I need to have control over the proper organising of this tournament,” said Adonis. The quarterfinals will kick off on Saturday night, while the semifinals and final will be played on the final night of the tournament (Sunday), which has over $150 000 in cash and prizes up for grabs, with Colors Boutique giving each member of the winning team a pair of turf boots. Tomorrow night’s fixtures show North East battling GT Baller Kings in the first match, followed by Alexander Village facing Costello Housing Scheme, Back Circle/Warlock meeting Leopold Street, Tiger Bay clashing with Rasville and Middle Road taking on South Central. In other matches Stevedore Housing Scheme and Mojos United go head-to-head, Broad Street will look to stop Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Lodge Housing Scheme will take on Bend-Kirton Court, Charlestown and Island All Stars go up against each other, Albouystown face Team LA, Queen Street will look to get past Robb Street and Lodge will battle with Braveheart. Meanwhile, Adonis’ plea for support from Corporate Guyana did not fall on deaf ears, as Exclusive Styles Boutique has decided to come on board, joining Giftland OfficeMax and several other business entities in support to the tournament. |
