THE Scotiabank/Pepsi School Football Academy Female All Stars team yesterday commenced training sessions at the Georgetown Football Club ground under coach Joseph Wilson and assistant coach Andrea Fredericks.
The objective of this venture is to improve the skill levels of the players, along with their knowledge on the Laws of the Game, to prepare a team to participate in GFF tournaments, get the female players in readiness for the National U-17 team to compete in the CFU 2014 World Cup Qualifiers and to have them play international friendlies both at home and overseas.Players will also be identified for possible scholarship awards in the UK, USA, Canada, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and any other country of their choice. The Guyana Sports Development Foundation, Scotiabank, Demerara Distillers Limited and the Guyana Football Federation are the stakeholders of this programme and approaches will be made to the ministries of Education and Culture, Youth and Sport, for their support and contribution. The sessions, which will see players who were drawn from schools which participated in the just concluded Scotiabank/Pepsi School Football Academy Tournament, will continue on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the same venue, commencing at 09:00 hrs daily. At the conclusion of the training session on Saturday, parents were brought up to date on the future plans of the programme by coordinator Lawrence Griffith. |
