By Savitri Laikram MINIBUS Conductor, Travis David, 28, of Caesar Street, Agricola, Greater Georgetown, appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, on Tuesday, charged with common assault, wherein he allegedly assaulted Ocliff Pitt on June 25 at Bent Street, Georgetown. And Pitt, a businessman of 86 John Street, Campbellville Georgetown, was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm committed on David at the same place and time. They each pleaded not guilty to their respective charge. Pitt was represented by Attorney Gordon Gilhuys, who told the court that the two parties wished to settle the matter. This was, however, ignored by the magistrate, who took into consideration that they had each pleaded not guilty to the respective charge. Pitt was fined $50,000, and David $20,000; but Pitt refused to pay his fine, and this caused the magistrate to put them both on bail, after an almost 10-minute deliberation with Attorney Gilhuys. The men were instead placed on bail at $20,000 for Pitt and $10,000 for David, and were instructed to return to court on July 18. |
