THIRTY ONE-year-old car dealer Ryan Budhu of Montrose, East Coast Demerara, appeared yesterday before Sparendaam Magistrate Alex Moore charged with unlawful wounding, wherein it was alleged that, on March 6 at Ogle, Budhu unlawfully and maliciously wounded Amjad Rahaman.
Represented by Counsel James Bond, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. Prosecuting for the state was police sergeant Bernard Brown. Magistrate Moore appealed to the accused and the defendant to reach a settlement on the matter, but they each refused to so do, making it clear to the court that they would prefer to have this matter tried. Counsel Bond told the court that his client would lodge a complaint against Rahaman after the court hearing yesterday morning, as the virtual complainant was the one who had pushed his client first, leading to the fight. Budhu was granted $25,000 bail, and both men will be returning to court today. |
