Sentence postponed for murder accused guilty of manslaughter SHAWN Tyndall called Arthur and Asha threw in the towel at his Berbice Assizes murder trial on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to the lesser count of offence of manslaughter. It happened after defence counsel; Raymond Ali failed to have a caution statement attributed to him excluded from the evidence. The lawyer had advanced preliminary submissions which triggered a voir dire (trial within a trial) before Justice Brassington Reynolds after he challenged the admissibility of the attestation. But the judge ruled that the confession was made freely and voluntarily and Tyndall decided to adopt a different course. Following consultations with state prosecutor, Rhondel Weaver, the prisoner’s plea of guilty to the less serious offence was accepted and the judge ordered a probation report on the convict’s background to be presented prior to sentencing on January 31. Tyndall was, originally indicted for the capital offence in the murder of his lover, Camille Medina De Jonge, a weeder attached to East Berbice Sugar Estates, between Sunday 24 and Monday 25, September 2008. The woman was discovered dead in her bed, with a gaping wound to the neck at Mc Gowan Street, Manchester Village, Corentyne, Berbice. The lifeless body of the mother of two was discovered by her children who were attempting to awaken her and the cause of death was recorded as shock and haemorrhage, resulting from the neck wound. |
