Robbery defendant not identified released on own recognisance DONNEY Allicock (no address given) appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, on a robbery under arms charge. He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, last December 10, being armed with a gun, he robbed Nekeiza James of items valued $168,600. Police Sergeant, Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was walking on Peter Rose Street, in Queenstown, Georgetown, when the defendant, in company of another person, drove up behind her and Allicock disembarked the car and took away the woman’s belongings. The prosecutor had no objection to bail but requested that it be substantial and the magistrate set it at $250,000. The defendant told the court he was arrested on December 22 and police placed him on an identification parade, after which he was released because he was not identified. However, Allicock said he was held, again, on Friday, in connection with the same crime and his lawyer, Mr. Patrice Henry, who was not present, is in possession of a document stating that he was never picked out on the line-up. The case was called later in the day before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell and the defendant was sent away on his own recognisance, after Henry made an appearance and provided the document that proved Allicock was not fingered on the parade. The case was then postponed to January 31. |
